Retool terms of service: who owns your apps and what it trains on
Updated
Retool spreads its rules over a customer agreement, a master subscription agreement and two sets of AI terms, and they do not all answer the training question the same way.
Who owns the apps a team builds on Retool?
Retool's customer terms say the customer will own all Customer Data and Custom Apps, excluding the components of the Retool Platform. Its master subscription agreement says the customer owns all right, title and interest in Custom Apps.

Does Retool train AI on what you build?
Its AI terms say Retool does not currently use Customer Materials or AI Output to train its own models, and the master agreement says it will not train on Customer Data except as the AI terms set out. The AI App Builder terms differ: on Free, Team and Business plans Retool may use and derive data from inputs and outputs to improve its assistant, including by training, but it must give the customer advance notice and a way to opt out first.

How long is there to take the data out?
Under the master subscription agreement, for up to thirty days after termination the customer may ask Retool for a copy of Customer Data it still stores. The customer terms put export and retention settings in the customer's own hands while the account runs.
