Choosing where the data lives
Internal tool builder terms: open source, hosted and AI app builders
Updated
The builder a team chose years ago decides more about a data licence than most owners expect. Open-source tools, hosted low-code suites and AI app builders take very different lines.
Open-source builders
Appsmith's terms say the customer keeps all right, title and interest in the applications it creates and the data the platform processes. ToolJet says the customer keeps title to its data, yet also lets ToolJet access and analyse it on a pseudonymised basis for any purpose ToolJet deems appropriate.

Hosted low-code platforms
Quickbase says the customer owns its Customer Data and Customer Applications, and Zoho Creator says you keep the rights in the applications you develop. Knack keeps a perpetual licence to de-identified usage data and leaves exporting before termination to the customer.

AI app builders
Lovable says you own your customer data and the apps you build, but it may train models on that data until you ask it to stop. Glide may train on your content and your apps' structure unless your plan offers an opt-out you have used.
